Statement of
Faith
Conduct
Basic Standards of Behavior:
Children are expected to maintain Christian standards in courtesy, kindness,
honesty, modesty, morality, and respect. Older children are encouraged to be
good role models and show responsibility for younger children.
Specific prohibited behavior: The
following items will result in immediate disciplinary action: indecent
language, the use or possession of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs, possession of
firearms and weapons, inappropriate touching and kissing, aggressive behavior or
fighting, and dishonesty. Children that tolerate these prohibited
actions in others may also be subject to disciplinary action.
Cell phones:
Students are discouraged from bringing cell phones to school. The use of cell
phones is strictly prohibited during all school hours, including lunch and
breaks. Evergreen Academy can assume no responsibility for personal property or
money brought to school. Students may use the school's phone by asking
permission from the office. Parents may call the office and have messages
delivered to students at any time. A first offense will result in the
confiscation of the students cell phone. The student can then ask for their
phone back at the end of the school day. Any future offenses will then prohibit
the student from bringing the cell phone to school for the remainder of the
school year.
Other Personal Electronics
(including iPods, Gameboys, CD Players, etc): Students are
discouraged from bringing personal electronics to school; the use of any
personal electronics is strictly prohibited during all school hours; including
lunch and breaks. Evergreen Academy can assume no responsibility for personal
property or money brought to school. A first offense will result in the
confiscation of the students electronic device. The student can then ask for
their electronic device back at the end of the school day. Any future offenses
will then prohibit the student from bringing the electronic device to school for
the remainder of the school year.
Computer access: All classrooms
have a computer and the school is networked. Regarding internet access, the
school policy is that students access the internet in the presence of an adult.
While firewalls are in place, none are fail proof. As such, internet access is
restricted to items needed in support of academic projects and school approved
websites.
Community Service: Helping
children help others is an important part of their education. At Evergreen
Academy, community service projects are oriented first to our local community
and extend to the world at large.
Christmas Store/Sock It Away: In November, we begin our Sock It Away program, in conjunction with Bible
lessons on giving. Sock It Away gives children a chance to earn money at home
for the Christmas Store. The money is tracked in classroom bank registers.
Children are also encouraged to give 10% of their earnings to the current year's
national/international service project. In early December, children enjoy
the fruits of Sock It Away by shopping for family and friends in the school
Christmas Store. Parent volunteers help children wrap and label gifts. Children
enjoy the special time of working to give a secret surprise to someone.
Scholastic Book Fairs: EA hosts
two Scholastic Book Fairs during the school year, one in December and one in
May. Through these fairs you can enrich your home library while helping
Evergreen Academy acquire books: up to 50% of your purchases return to EA in
free books.
Reading Buddies. Children in
Middle School are assigned a reading partner in the kindergarten, first and
second grades.
Homework &
Special Projects
Homework is assigned
Monday-Thursday in every classroom. Occasionally children will have weekend
projects. Homework is a vital connection between home and school, reinforcing
important concepts and keeping parents informed about their child's school work.
Students document assignments in
their assignment books each day. Teachers check and initial books daily to
ensure the student has accurately copied the assignment. Parents are required to
initial homework notebooks daily. If your child has misplaced their notebook,
you may purchase a replacement from the office.
Children in Kindergarten are
expected to spend approximately 15 minutes each night completing homework
assignments. Children in Grades 1-2 are expected to spend approximately 30
minutes each night completing homework assignments. Children in Grades 3-5 are
expected to spend 30-60 minutes each night completing homework and middle school
students should anticipate 45-90 minutes each night.
If your child routinely spends
more than the expected time on homework, please review the following
checklist:
-
Does your child have a quiet place
for homework, free from distractions? (T.V. & radio)
-
Does your child have the necessary
supplies?
-
Does your child have your
attention and availability?
-
Does your child have a consistent
time and place to do homework?

Helping Your Child Learn
-
Insist on your child's prompt and
regular attendance at school.
-
Give proper attention to your
child's health, personal cleanliness, and neatness of dress.
-
Provide a quiet place for study
and homework, free from distractions.
-
Insist that your child bring home
any communications from school.
-
Emphasize the importance of
completing tasks at school and following the directions of teachers and other
adults.
-
Take an active part in
parent-teacher-school activities. Fulfill your service hour requirements early
in the year.
-
Speak well of teachers and other
adults in charge when you're with your child. When problems arise, tell the
