Elementary school is a new chapter in the lives of our children.
Moving through these grades, children grow and mature, mastering the social and
academic skills necessary for school success. Our elementary program serves
children in grades K-5. Kindergarten meets daily from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.,
with an optional enrichment program available from 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. daily.
Generally, each grade occupies one classroom, although sometimes
classrooms are mixed-age (for example, 3rd/4th). In all cases, classrooms are
capped at 17 students with one teacher. Classroom teachers hold current
certification and are chosen for their desire to work in a small, Christian
setting. Each classroom teacher is responsible for the core subjects of Math,
Reading, Spelling, Language/Phonics, Handwriting, Science, Bible and History.
Students leave the classroom daily for classes in Art, Music,
Spanish and/or PE, depending on the day. Lunch and recess are held in the
cafeteria, under the supervision of a para-professional. K-5 students enjoy a
number of field trips each year; 5th grade students can participate in a
week-long mission trip to the Navajo Nation in northern New Mexico.
Daily time is reserved in the classroom for learning Bible
verses and group prayer; a weekly chapel service rounds out each students
Christian education.
